As the curtain falls on another thrilling Premier 3 season, the Palmy Stallions stand tall with hearts full of pride and gratitude. For the second consecutive year, our club reached the grand final — a remarkable achievement for a team still in its early years of competition under the Manawatū Cricket Association (MCA) banner.
Though the championship slipped away in the final clash against Mahawas CC, the journey itself has been nothing short of inspiring.
The Grand Final: A Hard-Fought Battle
Winning the toss, the Stallions elected to bowl first, aiming to set the tone early. The bowlers struck upfront, but Mahawas CC fought back strongly, posting a competitive 231/8 in 40 overs.
- Jitto Thomas once again showed why he’s one of the side’s most dependable all-rounders, returning figures of 6 overs, 3/40.
- The fielding unit displayed grit, but Mahawas managed to build partnerships that carried them to a strong total.
In response, the Stallions began their chase with determination. However, wickets at regular intervals slowed momentum. Despite a resilient middle-order effort:
- Jithu Juby – 28 runs
- Jitto Thomas – 28 runs
- Renju Joseph – 24 runs
The Stallions were eventually bowled out for 141 in 31.2 overs, falling short by 90 runs.
Highlights Beyond the Scoreboard
While the scoreboard read defeat, the spirit of the Stallions shone brighter than ever. Every player contributed in their own way, showcasing teamwork, passion, and a never-give-up attitude.
Special recognition goes to Jitto Thomas, who led from the front in both batting and bowling, embodying the true spirit of an all-rounder.
Reaching back-to-back Premier 3 finals is a milestone that reflects not just talent, but also the commitment, resilience, and steady growth of the club.
